Safe access to syringes remains a huge barrier in HIV prevention in North Carolina. A survey conducted through the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy sought to identify barriers to selling syringes to individuals without a prescription. The survey was sent to 5,598 members registered with the NC Board of Pharmacy with a total of 904 completed surveys. Legalizing syringe exchange programs and increasing access to syringes through pharmacies, a serious HIV/Hepatitis C in NC outbreak can be prevented.
