More about the test

WNCAP offers HIV & Hepatitis C testing at multiple sites across our 18 county service area. The testing process requires the completion of a confidential one-page form giving your written consent. The test is done with a simple finger stick that takes a couple drops of blood and provides results in 20 minutes, enabling people to learn their status in a single visit. For those whose test result is reactive, connection to care is immediate.

WNCAP seeks to reach community members across the region to ensure access to free confidential HIV & Hepatitis C testing. By bringing testing into the community, services can be offered to groups in which HIV and other STIs have been under-diagnosed. WNCAP has hosted free testing events at homeless support agencies, health fairs, substance abuse clinics, community centers, churches, colleges, and migrant camps.

If you are interested in hosting a testing event in Western North Carolina, please contact us at info@wncap.org or (828) 252-7489.

WNCAP uses the OraQuick Advance Rapid HIV 1 and 2 Antibody Testsand the OraQuick Rapid Hepatitis C Antibody Test. These screening tools provide results in 20 minutes, enabling  people who have a reactive test result to be connected within a few days with the support of a WNCAP medical case manager and/or client eligibility navigator.

North Carolina does not allow anonymous HIV testing, only confidential HIV testing. Confidential testing means a name is associated with the test. All information is held in strict confidence and is not released to anyone who is not associated with the testing process
