CENTERS FOR DISEASE CONTROL AND PREVENTION
WNCAP fights for the rights of people living with HIV
WNCAP provides free and confidential rapid testing for HIV, Hepatitis C, and Syphilis. Testing is available by appointment at the Asheville office (554 Fairview Rd.), Monday – Friday from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. Click here to make an appointment. Feel free to contact WNCAP for more information at info@wncap.org or (828) 252-7489.
WNCAP also offers HIV and Hepatitis C testing at multiple sites across our 18 county service region per request. Contact us at info@wncap.org or (828) 252-7489 to set up a free and confidential testing event in your community. The testing process requires the completion of a simple one-page form with your written consent. The test is done with a simple finger stick that takes a couple drops of blood and provides results in 20 minutes, enabling people to learn their status in a single visit. For those whose test result is reaction, connection to care is immediate.
WNCAP seeks to reach all community members to ensure access to free confidential HIV and Hepatitis C testing services. By bringing testing into the community, services can be offered to groups in which HIV and other STDs have been under-diagnosed. WNCAP has hosted free HIV and Hepatitis C testing events at homeless support agencies, health fairs, substance abuse clinics, community centers, churches, colleges, and migrant camps. If you are interested in hosting an event in Western North Carolina, please contact WNCAP Prevention Supervisor Tracey Childers at tchilders@wncap.org or (828) 252-7489 ext. 312.
More about the test
WNCAP uses the OraQuick Advance Rapid HIV ½ Antibody Test and the OraQuick Rapid Hepatitis C Test. This screening tool provides results in 20 minutes, enabling people to learn their status in a single visit and allows people who have a reactive test result to be connected to care immediately.
North Carolina does not allow anonymous HIV testing, only confidential HIV testing. Confidential testing means a name is associated with the test. All information is held in strict confidence and is not released to anyone who is not associated with the testing process
