Born To Be virtual film screening WNCAP

WNCAP invites everyone to a Pay-What-You-Can virtual screening of Born to Be, a “lively, moving” documentary about transgender and non-binary people seeking transition-related healthcare. All proceeds from our Born to Be virtual screening will be donated to the Marsha P. Johnson Institute to support their efforts to protect and defend the lives of Black Trans people.

Email Michael Poandl at mpoandl@wncap.org or call (703) 615-7943 for the exclusive streaming link, which expires at midnight on July 10.

Born to Be follows the work of Dr. Jess Ting at the groundbreaking Mount Sinai Center for Transgender Medicine and Surgery in New York City.

Not all trans and non-binary people wish to engage in medical transition. However, for the first time ever, quality transition-related health care is available for all those who need it. Born to Be tells the remarkable story of how this was made possible.

We are recommending a donation of $25 or more to support the Marsha P. Johnson Institute. To donate, click here and select “Born to Be – Marsha P. Johnson Institute”.

With extraordinary access, Born to Be takes an intimate look at how one doctor’s work impacts the lives of his patients as well as how his own journey from plastic surgeon to pioneering gender-affirming surgeon has led to his personal transformation.

THE CRITICS ARE RAVING:

Born to Be distinguishes itself with its sensitive, humane portrait of the dedicated Dr. Ting, his hard-working staff (some of whom are transgender themselves) and his diverse patients, who yearn merely to live in a body that reflects their inner identity.”

– Hollywood Reporter

“A film that both fascinates and educates, shining a light on a community and their challenges, which have been too long left in the dark.”
